I joined the SSRB support team in May as a critical friend for five Phase 2 projects, which Patsy had been supporting before her move to work with Ellen as a critical friend for the Phase 3 WFD projects. Then in July, Judy Lyons left for warmer climes and I was asked to step in to support her three Phase 2 projects. So I am now linked to these eight projects.
ASSET: development of an interactive resource, ‘ASSET’, to provide timely, quality feedback to students
EASiHE : developing an open source e-assessment repository for formative assessment
e-Assignment : development of an institutional submission and management system for assessment of open-ended assignments
ELTAC: development and implementation of a university-wide automated lecture capture system
MEAOT : investigating the use of modular tools for teaching administration tasks across different departments
STEEPLE : development, delivery and integration of educational audio and video into institutional web portals
TAG: development of The Alternative Guide to UCLAN, an interactive website to support students in their transition into higher education
TELSTAR-OU : a library project focussing on bibliographic resource management
So far my contact with the projects has mostly been by email, although I have talked on the phone to a couple of project leaders and have set up feeds to all their blogs so that I keep up to date with progress.
All the projects seem to be going well. A big challenge is going to be the Assemblies to help disseminate this progress. There is funding for these. The Create support team can help with advice about how to run these, so we hope to organise visits to each of the projects before the end of the year to do this. I’m looking forward to meeting people and learning more about each of the projects, not to mention visiting different institutions in different parts of the country!
